The Byczek blog is dead. Long live The Exaltation.

When I started this personal blog of things that I found inspirational, I never thought I would find an outlet that so many other people would connect with. Since March 2010, I’ve been fortunate enough to watch the site visits grow and grow, eventually adding up to tens of thousands of unique visitors. Just about a year and half old, The Byczek Blog has, proverbially, grown too big for it’s britches and a transformation of some sort was bound to happen.

I’m happy to announce that I have launched a new site, The Exaltation, with the purpose of not only sharing what I love and admire, but expanding to include a team of incredibly talented and thoughtful friends and colleagues. The Exaltation is all about high praise for art, design, architecture, films, music, fashion, events, products and whatever else we feel is worth sharing and celebrating. The site will hopefully grow steadily and morph along the way, and I look forward to cultivating a great site worthy of it’s name. I want to thank you for all your support and hope that you’ll find just as much inspiration in the new project.

Katherine Verhoeven – Drawn & Devoured

Documenting the food and drink one consumes is certainly not a new idea, but I love the particular illustrated perspective that artist Katherine Verhoeven puts on it in her running blog, Drawn & Devoured. Her drawings (especially the newest ones on her blog) have taken a decidedly Art-Deco classic 1930-40’s look and feel to them, many rendered with a sun bleached palette of cremes, olives and goldenrods…really beautiful work that could act as their own visual menus for these delectable dishes. Good enough to eat, indeed.

Today is One Day For Design

Described as “an open, global dialogue on the meaning and future of design, and on the meaning and future of professional design associations” One Day For Design (1D4D) has some design and branding heavyweights supporting and moderating today’s blog and twitter discussions, like AIGA, Alex Bogusky, Armin Vit, Katherine Walker and more. There’s an official twitter hashtag (#1D4D) which you can follow and tweet to here and a One Day blog here for longer in depth conversations. Let’s Talk!

Jason Polan – Every Person in NY

Jason Polan, a professional illustrator and artist, has taken on an ambitious and some would say, impossible project. He is attempting to draw a portrait of every person in New York City. You can witness his efforts at his blog which he updates every day with image after image of everyday people doing all sorts of things. Jason’s strategy is quite simple, he sits in public spaces or restaurants or parks and sketches who he sees around him.

You can follow his progress here.

And be sure to watch this MoMA 30-second film of Jason in action here.
